INTRODUCTION

Revelation 5:5
And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

Revelation 22:16
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.

Jesus Christ is the root and descendent of David Youtube video

That is his unique identity in the book of Samuel [1st & 2nd]. The name "David" is used 805 times in the KJV bible, but 439 usages [54%!] are in the book of Samuel [1st & 2nd].

In other words, the name of David is used more in the book of Samuel than all of other books of the bible combined.

The word "root" in both verses in revelation comes from the Greek word rhiza.

Definition of root:
Strong's Concordance #4491
rhiza: a root
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Phonetic Spelling: (hrid'-zah)
Definition: a root, shoot, source; that which comes from the root, a descendent.

ROOTED AND GROUNDED IN LOVE

Ephesians 3:17
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith [believing]; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,

Definition of "rooted":
Thayer's Greek Lexicon
STRONGS NT 4492: ῤιζόω [rhizoo]
to render firm, to fix, establish, cause a person or a thing to be thoroughly grounded:

Very significantly, this Greek word is only used twice in the entire bible, since the number 2 in the bible is the number of establishment.

Colossians 2
6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

This Greek word rhizoo has rhiza as its root word [pardon the pun ;)], so that ties the root back to Jesus Christ as the root and descendent of David in Revelation.

In plants, the primary function of roots is to:
  1. Physically anchor the plant into the ground for stability and protection against storms
  2. Absorption & conduction of water and dissolved minerals [nutrients]
  3. Storage of food reserves
Referring back to Ephesians 3:17, the word "grounded" means:

Strong's Concordance #2311
themelioó: to lay the foundation of
Part of Speech: Verb
Phonetic Spelling: (them-el-ee-o'-o)
Definition: I found, lay the foundation (lit. and met.).

This word "grounded" is used 5 times in the NT. 5 is the number of God's grace and it was Jesus Christ who brought grace to mankind. The first usage is in Matthew 7:25.

Matthew 7
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

In verse 25, the last word in the verse, "rock" comes from this Greek word:

Strong's Concordance #4073
petra: a (large mass of) rock
Part of Speech: Noun, Feminine
Phonetic Spelling: (pet'-ra)
Definition: a rock, ledge, cliff, cave, stony ground.

HELPS Word-studies
4073 pétra (a feminine noun) – "a mass of connected rock," which is distinct from 4074 (Pétros) which is "a detached stone or boulder" (A-S). 4073 (pétra) is a "solid or native rock, rising up through the earth" (Souter) – a huge mass of rock (a boulder), such as a projecting cliff.

4073 (petra) is "a projecting rock, cliff (feminine noun) . . . 4074 (petros, the masculine form) however is a stone . . . such as a man might throw" (S. Zodhiates, Dict).

This word petra is used in Matthew 16:18, where it refers to Jesus Christ himself.

Matthew 16:18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Thus when the storms of life hit, if we're rooted and grounded in Christ's love, we can weather any storm Satan throws at us.

Tied into the concept of Jesus Christ being the root and descendent of David [the theme of the book of Samuel], and the rhizomes, and being rooted and grounded in love [ephesians 3:17] is John 15.

John 15
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
